Iranian Foreign Ministry: arms trade restrictions will be lifted by the end of October
On 20 September, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed that restrictions on the arms trade would be lifted by the end of October, stating that the Islamic Republic was not currently under an arms embargo, rather, the country was facing restrictions on the purchase of weapons. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. In a televised speech, the Foreign Minister commented on the unilateral efforts of the United States to restore sanctions against Iran, stressing: It is clear that all members of the Security Council, with the exception of the United States and another country, officially stated that they did not recognize Washington's demands and actions. A month ago, the United States authorities wanted to extend the arms embargo on Iran, he said, noting that Tehran was more likely to face restrictions on the purchase of weapons, and therefore should have received permission from the UN Security Council. Recall that thirteen states addressed letters to the Security Council in which they opposed the actions of the United States and the extension of the arms embargo on the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI).
