Killed for flirting: how reprisal against a black man changed the United States
On August 28, 1955, two white men killed 14-year-old black teenager Emmett Till after brutal torture, and threw his body into the river. According to the official version, one of them avenged a minor for flirting with his wife. Lynching in Mississippi led to widespread public outcry. It is believed that it was with the murder of Till that the mass movement against racial discrimination in the United States began. Among other things, the tragedy shaped the worldview of one of the most prominent athletes of the 20th century, Mohammed Ali.
